Professor Cai is a winner of the National Science Foundation for Outstanding Youth, a distinguished Professor of Cheung Kong Scholars of the Ministry of Education, and a member of the National Program for Millions of Talents. Cai group carried out research on the practical needs of clinical hard tissue repair implants for inflammation and infection, fixation for osteoporosis patients, and drug responsive controlled release system. The main research directions are focused on the following three aspects:
(1) The interaction of titanium and titanium alloy surface/interface with cells: Design and construction multi-scale micro/nano composite structure interface and bio-induced interface of titanium substrate from the biomimetic perspective of multi-scale micro/nano structure of natural bone. Systematic study the basic laws and molecular mechanisms of titanium substrate/interfacial mediated specific protein adsorption, cell adhesion/proliferation/differentiation, and tissue formation.
(2) Responsiveness of nano drug controlled release system and micro devices: Design and development of responsive drug deliverysystem to respond the different external stimuli (e.g. heat, light, magnetic field, pH, redox, etc.) by using ferromagnetic nanoparticles and mesoporous silica nanoparticles. Exploration the decomposition, metabolism and distribution of the each systems at the molecular, cellular and animal level to provide the potential carriers and scientific basis for clinical tumor treatment.
(3) The key technology of the research and development of functional titanium alloy implants: Development of new technology for anti-bacterial/inflammation and in situ osteoporosis treatment, provide technical support for the research and development of functional titanium alloy implants.
